Sky Octopus Versus Flightless Bird

Roles: Game Designer, Level Designer, Sound Designer, Producer

This game was made by four people in one week, and was our third collaborative Building Virtual Worlds Project. It's meant to be projected onto and played on a platform called the Jam-O-Drum, a round table with four large, pressure-sensitive buttons that are encircled by spinnable wheels. Sky Octopus is a two-player game that features asymmetric gameplay: one player controls the flightless bird on the bottom of the play area, who must navigate a side-scrolling platformer while collecting ten golden feathers and avoiding the octopus's tentacles, while the player who controls the octopus extends its tentacles in an attempt to ensnare the flightless bird three times. The player who controls the bird's playspace is horizontal, while the player who controls the octopus's playspace is vertical. This video is from an early build of the game, hence the bird glitching through the terrain at video's end, and the sporadic flashing of the octopus's tentacles. I produced this project, and designed the game mechanics, the sound, and the level.
