The Ziggurat is an approximately 10-minute, narrative-driven, first-person micro-game developed in Unreal Engine 4. It's a satirical depiction of the job-hunting process gone grotesquely awry, in which an applicant's identity is reduced to "Candidate" and a potential employer utilizes an unsettling software application to assess a virtual representation of said Candidate.

As a game jam-like design challenge to myself, I created this project over the course of three days, from genesis of concept to final build. Due to the intentionally rapid nature of development, stock UE4 assets are primarily used, and there is no sound or music.

My goals for this game were to:

  • Design and implement a bespoke Conversation system using Blueprints
  • Augment my understanding of box trigger utilization by scripting several discrete trigger actions
  • Execute a coherent narrative
  • Include numerous flavorful non-linear dialogue choices
  • Design and implement a limited-yet-interesting environment which players could unambiguously traverse
  • Model a few custom scene objects (a key, level gates) in Maya
A playable Windows version of the game can be downloaded HERE. Movement is controlled with the WASD keys.

(Note: The download will be a .zip file which must first be extracted before the .exe within can be run.)
